Cumberland County has an extensive history of quilt making that has not yet been documented. The LeTort Quilters proposes to gather information, images, and stories of vintage quilts (pre-1950), quilt makers, and quilt making in a centralized location to preserve the rich local legacy of quilting for future generations. Documenting quilts adds to our local heritage by linking us to our past and adds to the general body of quilting knowledge by piecing together a history of fabric, thread, design, and color, and recording the sewing and artistic vision of women who quilted.
